Dendrobium

"Improve kidney/liver function, eye vision and immune system.
Prevents arthritic symptons and cardiovascular.
Helps diabetes, detoxification and cholesterol."

The above tagline is the information given to us visitors when we visited the famous Chinese Medical Hall in Hong Kong. The advertisement makes Dendrobium sounds like a miracle herb. Well, the price ranges from RM12/gm (cheapest) to RM 26/gm (high grade) and to be consumed long term.
We were informed that this is rare and found in China. There are different quality and has different prices. My thoughts were "aren't we destroying biodiversity by consumption?", why not manage it sustainably?
Then I found other information from the internet that Dendrobium is "a variety of Chinese orchid is an excellent and delicious Yin Jing tonic and longevity herb. It is said to quickly and effectively replace spent "adaptive energy". It is widely used in the Orient by those who engage in a lot of sexual activity to replace the spent energy and to replace fluids; and thus it is commonly called honeymooners tea." (from Ron Teeguarden)
This leads to another story about a person called OW. Few years ago I met OW and he didn't look a day over 35. In fact he must be at least 42 then. Now he is 47. OW has got amazing levels of energy. At work he is always finding new things to do and fixing things. OW currently has 3 wives and he could manage work and family lives very well (Disclaimer, not discussing polygamy vs monogamy). The secret we found out are 2 things, he must be into herbs as he has this book of "guide to herbs" and secondly we knew he drank water from a certain special wood "kayu pasak". The wood can come in a cup shape or just a wood. Pour hot water on the wood and drink. OW could operate with 3-5 hrs sleep and wouldn't have a problem. BTW, kayu pasak can be bought in Kalimantan.
So, what's the point? Well I still believe in responsible management of our own health, no miracle drug or herbs could cure a broken system. Miracle drug or herbs can enhance a good system.
...therefore, time to go to bed. Good night.
